Abstract
As a result of attacks on Navy vessels, the U.S. Navy has sponsored Stevens to pursue research in the areas of harbor security and of force protection while in harbor. Some areas of research include diver detection, characterization of harbor noise to enhance detection capabilities, visualization techniques leading to infra-red capabilities, determination of hostile intent, and adaptive learning techniques applied to multisensor environments.
The Maritime Security Laboratory has been built to enable experimental research in these areas, and to provide empirical validation of analytic and model-based research. In this presentation we will discuss the Laboratory, the types of experiments it enables, and how it is supporting the above research areas.
Barry Bunin is the Laboratory Director and Chief Architect of the Maritime Security Laboratory. He is responsible for building the experimental capabilities necessary to support Stevens Research in the area of Harbor Security. Prior to joining Stevens, Dr. Bunin was an executive at Bell Laboratories and the telecommunications industry, responsible for research and operations of global telecommunications networks. He has a B.S. from Cooper Union, M.S from the University of Pennsylvania, and Ph. D. from Brooklyn Polytech.
This seminar is sponsored by iNetS and ECE.
