Security of laboratory equipment is always an issue, becoming more severe the more open the access to the laboratory becomes. Unauthorized removal of equipment from the laboratory will be reported to the police.
To provide security, surveillance cameras continually record normal and infrared video as well as audio within the laboratory. This information is displayed on a monitor as well as stored in a video recorder for later review. The system has internet access with the appropriate logins, allowing designated faculty and student managers to monitor what is happening in the laboratory. The laboratory's inventory of equipment will be checked regularly and, in the event that one or more items is found missing, this surveillance information will be used to identify the person(s) responsible.
In addition to establishing this surveillance system, users of the laboratory will be required to sign in prior to using the facility and sign out when leaving. A strict set of rules has been established regarding use of the laboratory. Those failing to honor the basic rules are likely to be denied future access to the laboratory.
